Phyllodulcin is a dihydroisocoumarin found in Hydrangea macrophylla and Hydrangea serrata.

It is a sweetener 400–800 times sweeter than sugar.

Obesity and Metabolic Regulation :
Phyllodulcin has shown effectiveness in regulating obesity-related metabolic changes
and promoting fat browning in obese mice induced by a high-fat diet.
It helped reduce subcutaneous fat mass, plasma lipid levels, and improved levels of leptin, adiponectin,
and fasting blood glucose. Furthermore, it influenced the expression of genes related to lipogenesis and fat browning.

Phyllodulcin could be a potential sweetener that could be used to combat obesity by regulating levels of leptin,

fat browning-related genes, and hypothalamic BDNF-TrkB signaling.

It could also be a potential candidate for treating Alzheimer’s disease.
