L-Rhamnose is widely distributed in plants as a trace sugar.
It is present in many phytosides (e.g. quercetin, isohypericin, etc.), polysaccharides, especially pectins and gums,

L-Rhamnose can be used to determine intestinal permeability, as a sweetener, to reduce Fehling's solution,
and with sodium amalgam to produce rhamnitol. It is hydrolyzed from Xanthorhamnin and Quercitin.
