Sulfathiazole is a broad-spectrum antibacterial drug that kills bacteria by inhibiting their protein synthesis. Specifically,
sulfathiazole can competitively bind to dihydrofolate synthetase in bacteria, thus blocking dihydrofolate synthesis.
