Dinoprostone is an endogenous prostaglandin derived from the action of cyclooxygenase on arachidonic acid.

Dinoprostone has diverse biological actions in the areas of inflammation, cancer, immune modulation, fertility,

smooth muscle relaxation and hematopoietic stem cell homeostasis. Prostaglandin E2 acts through four distinct receptors: EP1, EP2, EP3, EP4.

‌Cervical Ripening‌: Dinoprostone softens and dilates the cervix by stimulating collagen degradation via prostaglandin E₂ release‌.
‌Uterine Contraction Induction‌: Dinoprostone enhances uterine muscle sensitivity, particularly in late-term pregnancy, to induce labor‌.
‌Labor Initiation‌: Effective for cervical priming in term pregnancies, reducing the need for cesarean sections by promoting natural labor progression‌.

‌2. Clinical Applications‌
‌Labor Induction‌: Dinoprostone Used for ‌term or post-term pregnancies‌ when vaginal delivery is safe but spontaneous labor is absent‌.
‌Therapeutic Abortion‌: Applied in ‌mid-trimester pregnancy termination‌ or cases of intrauterine fetal demise‌.
‌High-Risk Pregnancy Management‌: Suitable for pregnancies complicated by preeclampsia, hypertension, renal disease, or advanced maternal age‌.
‌Cervical Preparation‌: Prepares the cervix for surgical procedures (e.g., dilation and evacuation)‌
