As a second-generation cephamycin antibiotic, Cefoxitin Sodium inhibits bacterial cell wall biosynthesis to kill pathogens.

It is highly active against anaerobic bacteria (e.g., Bacteroides fragilis) and Gram-negative bacteria, and resistant to β-lactamase hydrolysis, distinguishing it from other cephalosporins.

Cefoxitin Sodium is widely applied in treating mixed infections involving anaerobes and aerobes,
such as intra-abdominal infections, pelvic inflammatory disease, wound infections, and respiratory tract infections.
It is also used for surgical prophylaxis in colorectal or gynecological surgeries.
